State of Valar Gaming 2015

Eonwë-(Valar)
October 04th, 2015

To the Membership of the Valar Guild on this 18th Anniversary of the same, Greetings and Salutations!

Prior to September 2015, we had 151 members listed on the Games Site, playing 14 games.

Of those 151 members:

  • 35 played Lord of the Rings Online.
  • 12 played World of Warcraft.
  • 6 played Diablo 3.
  • 5 played StarCraft 2.
  • 3 played Eve Online.
  • 2 played each of Everquest 2, Guild Wars 2, League of Legends, and Star Wars the Old Republic.
  • 1 played each of Civilization 5, Elsworld, Hearthstone, Marvel Heroes, and Wartune.

The Games Site Mass-Update officially began September 10th, 2015, when e-mails were sent out to all Full Members with valid e-mail addresses listed on the Membership Roster. Members were requested to send in their most recent gaming information by September 30th, 2015, including in this information any games where they wished to be able to find other Guild Members, and if possible a name to find them by (the Valar Guild Forum or coming to meetings being other good ways of getting together and trading that information).

To that e-mail, there were 20 respondents (not including myself as initiator). One of those respondents tendered their resignation from the Valar Guild, expressing they were no longer interested in membership. 7 members' e-mails were returned as undeliverable.

During the period of the GSMU, we also added 2 new members.

Upon the completion of the GSMU, Membership rosters for the Guild Branches to which Eonwë has direct access were also checked, acknowledging member activity within 90 days in any of those Guild Branches to be recent activity (for those branches that allow viewing most recent activity on a character). Those branches are: the Landroval Kinship in Lord of the Rings Online; the Lothar (US) Guild in World of Warcraft; the Uldaman (US) Guild in World of Warcraft. From these Guild Branches, 20 more names were gleaned as recently active in gaming in one of our Guild Branches.

The Guild Roster on the Games Site has been thusly adjusted to reflect current, active Full Members and Members of Honor of the Valar Guild in accordance with the Member Activity page, direct responses from the GSMU, and recent activity in the aforementioned Guild Branches.

As of October 4th, 2015, the Games Site Membership Roster shows that we have 148 active members playing 12 games and on 2 online gaming services (3 if we count Battle.net for the associated Blizzard games).

Of those 148 members:

  • We have 1 member playing each of Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, League of Legends, and Online Chess.
  • We have 3 members playing each of Diablo 3, Guild Wars 2, Hearthstone, and Heroes of the Storm.
  • We have 5 members playing each of Eve Online, Star Wars: The Old Republic, and StarCraft 2.

World of Warcraft remains our second most played game, with 11 members playing some amount of it.

Lord of the Rings Online remains our most played game, with 31 members playing some amount of it, It has been number one for the Valar Guild since overtaking World of Warcraft in 2007.

This concludes the State of Valar Gaming. As always, please check over your gaming information, making sure it is correct. If you did not respond to the GSMU, you can still send in your gaming information. Remember to keep me updated on games you play that you'd like to be able to find other Guild Members playing.

Happy Anniversary!
