State of Valar Gaming 2017

Eonwë-(Valar)
October 04th, 2017

To all members of the Valar Guild, Hail and Salutations on the 20th Anniversary of our illustrious community! Congratulations on keeping going this fine community of Tolkien fans for two decades!

Prior to September 2017, there were 154 members playing 19 games.

Of those 154 members:

  • 31 members played Lord of the Rings Online.
  • 10 Members played World of Warcraft.
  • 5 members played each of Diablo 3 and Starcraft 2.
  • 4 members played Eve Online.
  • 3 members played each of Guild Wars 2 and Heroes of the Storm.
  • 2 members played each of Hearthstone and Star Wars: The Old Republic.
  • 1 member played each of DCS World, DotA, Elder Scrolls Online, Grand Theft Auto 5, League of Legends, Smite, Spellstone, Star Trek Online, Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes, and War of Omens.

Additionally:

  • 5 members said they could be found on Steam.
  • 1 member said he could be found on Kongregate.

On September 10th, 2017, the Games Site Mass-Update letter was sent out, requesting all members to send in their most up-to-date gaming information by September 30th. 64 e-mails were sent out to members with an e-mail address listed on the Membership page. Of those, 6 were undeliverable and 16 responded by the deadline, not including myself as initiator. To those who responded, thank you.

A further 22 members' gaming information was gleaned from Guild Branch activity in World of Warcraft and Lord of the Rings Online. As with previous years, any activity within 90 days was counted as recent activity. The branches examined were on the US servers of Uldaman and Lothar for World of Warcraft, and the server Landroval for Lord of the Rings Online.

Once all sources accessible to Eonwe were verified for recent activity, the Games Site roster was updated to reflect current gaming information.

As of October 1st, 2017, the Valar Guild Games Site now reflects a total of 153 members playing 25 games.

Of those 153 members:

  • 1 member plays each of Battletech, Divinity: Original Sin 2, Eve: Valkyrie, Everquest 2, Final Fantasy XIV, Grim Dawn, Guild Wars, Hearthstone, League of Legends, Legends of Equestria, Minecraft, Rocket League, Spellstone, Star Trek Online, Star Wars: The Old Republic, Starcraft, Stellaris, and Warframe.
  • 2 members play Diablo 3.
  • 3 members play each of Eve Online, Guild Wars 2, and Heroes of the Storm.
  • 5 members play Starcraft 2.

I would note here that 2 members in Diablo 3 is half of a full game, and 3 members in Heroes of the Storm is just 2 members shy of a full group, should schedules permit.

World of Warcraft remains our second most played game with 9 members. It has gone down by 1 since last year, remaining relatively consistent.

Lord of the Rings Online remains our most played game with 29 members. It has lost 2 members actively playing compared to last year, but is still our strongest game by a fair margin.

Additionally:

  • 1 member can be found on Steam.
  • 2 members can be found on Battle.net.
  • 1 member can be found on Kongregate.

This concludes the State of Valar Gaming for 2017. As always, please check over your gaming information, making sure it is correct. If you did not respond to the GSMU, you can still send in your gaming information. Remember to keep me updated on games you play that you'd like to be able to find other Guild Members playing.

Happy 20th Anniversary!
